Paul! I have taken the liberty of transcribing your solo for my channel and will be posting it on Friday. I have added links to your original video, plus the full concert, plus your other socials. It'd be great if you could promote it your end. All the best!
❤
Are you still using the Denis wick 6bs? Im planning to switch from bach 6 1/2AL to Denis wick heritage 6BS bcoz ppl said denis wick heritage is forgiving your chops and more comfortable.
Nice Paul. It looks like doing that felt really good... which made for a fun listen.
Thanks for listening and nice words
🙏
Smooth… 🥰💃🕺
I think J.J. was right. You (Paul) sound great on all of them. It doesn't matter. The slight differences from the Conn to the Yamaha may be due to the order you played them in. I was able to score a used King 3B+ and I love it.
am i the only one that wants to learn how to play trombone just to make the sound of trombone from my signing monsters 💀
Sounds like a talk box a little bit! Thats... sick-
Thanks for sharing Paulie
That was AWESOME. I've owned a trombone for a month, and just now picked it up to play it. Took me 5 minutes and 39 seconds to play Mary had a Lil lamb!
Sir i love your videos I love trombones but the problem is i dont have one Please can you show some love ❤❤😢
Hey paul, what is ur Denis wick heritage size on tenor trombone? (is it small bore?)
its a 6bs
@@PaulTheTrombonist thank you
now I can play the 3 Stooges theme song on T Bone
Try the 2b slide on the 3b thats what i heard on an interview with JJ Johnson say thsts what he did
I like the trick at 2:58. Hard to learn! 😉
Heavy top sounded nice.
Satisfying
Now this is on my bucket list to play!
Great job Paul , Rosolino was top level , chops were superb. He always amazed me in how high he could play , how ever the upper range is only I/3 of what our chosen instrument is capable of . For me I'm starting to do justice to my R10
When I was studying for my B.M.E., in Brass Methods class we learned there are +/-51 slide positions. We didn't discuss bass trombone, which I now play. At the time, I was a trumpet major. In 1991 I decided to change camps and took trombone lessons, so I asked my teacher. He said "There are ZERO positions. There are just notes played well in tune." Now after a couple decades having played Baroque trumpet and learning to lip notes all over the place with no reduction in tone colour or intensity, I often astounded him, as it seemed this ability transferred to the trombone. So he'd often comment: "You sounded great, but I don't have a clue how? Your slide was nowhere near where it should have e been." And I replied: "But you always say, there are no positions, just notes played well in tune." So he wouldn't have said "1-2, 1-3, 1-4, 1-5, 1-6, 1-7." He would have simply said: "f-e,f-e-flat, f-d, f-d-flat. f-c, f-b"
Thx for the info trombone is my elective for middle school
I liked the Williams and Yamaha best in your comparison. I love my King 3B Anniversary model and Jiggs 2B.
Dick Nasch!.. One of the most important trombonists who is still with us. Lead trombonist for many years in the recording sections of the Hollywood movies and the recordings of the Capitol label. A living legend!.. Thank you Paul
How would you recommend holding a trombone with an F attachment that doesn't have that brace for the thumb?
I think it supposed to have a brace for the thumb and that is why called f attachment (Im not very well sure)
The Yamaha looks almost like an Olds
Great work yet again. I have one for you. How about Minor Catastrophe by Pepper Adams & Jimmy Knepper? That would be cool! It’s not quite that west coast sound but it’s still from the right era.
thats a great record!
This jam made me cry tears of joy and nostalgia - thank you!!!
Why did this man call hot cross buns three blind mice
Klinkt geweldig
thank you!
This is my favorite interview of this series with my trombone hero the late great Mr. Bill Watrous! I had the pleasure of meeting Bill twice, once at the NAMM show in Anaheim and the other time at the ITF convention in Redlands where I met you as well Paul. He was a very nice person and even showed me some stuff on trombone and complimented me on my tone!
Would a couple hours with an emery cloth on the inner slide improve it?
He doesnt practice high notes he jusy plays them during general practicing. He could play a scale and do it full range so hes hitting them but hes doing it normally and really just practicing the scale
that intro !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
incredible !!!!!!!!!!!!! thank you for sharing ;)
This bone is fine for a new student who doesn’t want a pBone. It’s at least grade thru middle school quality. Like you said, it could be a fallback instrument if you needed one. Plus the case and the mouthpiece make it worth it. I wouldn’t use it in a professional capacity unless there was no other choice, but for the beginner who just needs one to get through school band, it’s decent.
I have been playing trombone for about a year and this vid really helped me😊
I've been trying to play trombone for 53 years and I've still got a ton to learn.
God bless you
Thanks it's a great way to start. I'm new to the tombone but can manage this. Love the blues vibe. Following you from South Africa,
Thanks Paul. My student trombone I’ve playing for too many years finally gave out, and I remember this video! Thanks again, I’ll be checking out some of your suggestions. As always, love your advise.
For the longest time I've just been borrowing this Yamaha Trombone that my highschool owned, and after around a 3 year break, now in college, I decided to get back in with my very minimal funds looking for a cheap trombone just so that I could finally have one of my own to get better with and found this exact same one although not through amazon, just a local shop in the city. I just found it hilarious that when I found you just now with this intriguing video, (by the way you're super cool), its the exact same cheap Trombone, good case and AMAZING gloves included! I really love the comparison, and definitely heard the difference. True enough, the slide is rough. I've already experienced a better one in the Yamaha trombone. Though this will definitely get me by for the next few years.
I prefer king 3b and the williams sound because to me they have a warmer and smooth sound i can feel it
Merciiiii
God Bless Arturo
I recently picked my trombone up after 34 years. The last time I played a single note was 9th grade in 1990. As I was cleaning out my grandparent's storage shed I found my trombone in its case in the corner. I couldn't believe it, and it was in pristine condition. I cleaned it, polished it, oiled it, and started to play. Brought back a lot of fond memories of my time in band. I have been taking lessons but I come here on my off days. You're instructions are phenomenal and I appreciate you sharing your expertise with us.
I can make pedals but how do I make them sound like normal notes if that makes sense?
I agree with regards to flexibility and technique there’s no substitute for the work. Don’t agree regarding upper register development I’ve know hundreds of trumpet players that put in the work and they don’t own are indeed scared of a high D/E. The common factor in Bergeron, Nicholson, Dowdeswell, Faddis, etc is they naturally could play high notes. It’s physiological, the key is your pivot point/teeth topography. Lynn demonstrates that in current videos where he moves off his pivot or switches to a much larger mouthpiece and the notes don’t come out. Yes you have to use a proper air stream but the idea that mastering the upper register is like a great power lifter and it takes years to develop isn’t true. There’s too many examples of players that could do the equivalent of benching 400 lbs in the 7th grade. The idea of just pounding your face with years of practice leads a lot of folks to frustration and in some places quitting or just attributing what the other players can to do “freak chops”. I have a lot of experience with teeth and trumpet players and can tell you if you radically changed any of these great upper register players teeth, ie take away their pivot, they’d loose in some cases and octave or more. I’ve had to find a new pivot point at least five times since starting trumpet, Jerry Franks was a phenomenal player and educator that helped hundreds with his insights into the pivot/anchor point. I have buddies that went to him and literally in one day picked up an octave. If you don’t want to mess with your teeth then consider checking out Dr Dave’s work with the Wedge mouthpieces. It’s not magic, it’s physical.
7:40 cool lick!
Excellent video. Thanks for putting that together.
